Description/Symbolism

Obverse Description.  On a bronze metal circular device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in diameter, an America bald eagle displayed and supporting an image of the POW flag, in his dexter talons an olive branch and in his sinister talons 13 arrows, above a triangle with five mullets and arching across the top inscribed, “OPERATIONAL TEAM SERVICE” all in bronze.

 

Obverse Symbolism:  The American bald eagle displayed holding an olive branch and 13 arrows is a national symbol. The triangle with stars represents a folded American flag.    

Reverse Description.  Surrounding an image of the land masses of the world the words inscribed, “DEFENSE POW/MIA ACCOUNTING AGENCY” and at the base a spray of laurel leaves.

Ribbon. The ribbon is Scarlet, Bluebird, White, Black, and Ultramarine Blue. Scarlet represents the blood of those lost on past recovery missions. Bluebird is representative of DoD and DPAA is a DoD agency. White symbolizes honor and integrity in which the mission is accomplished. Black alludes to the solemn nature of the agency’s mission.
